September 13, 2018
As part of Good Relations Week (Monday 17thSeptember - Sunday 23rd September), Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council’s Good Relations Programme has launched its programme of events for the Council area. The theme this year is ‘Then, Now… Next’.
Good Relations Week is a high profile initiative supporting the ‘Together: Building a United Community’ strategy, which is overseen by The Executive Office.
Alderman Paul Porter, Chairman of the Council’s Leisure & Community Development Committee, said: “Our Good Relations Programme has a long history of supporting the annual Good Relations Week initiative by hosting a variety of events and workshops to enhance understanding and promote cultural diversity within the Lisburn Castlereagh area. It is great to see a variety ofevents scheduled for across the Council area to mark this very special week in our calendar. I hope that we will have many groups and residents attending these cross-community events.”
“Good Relations Week is the ideal opportunity to celebrate all aspects of our local cultures and heritage. The Council hopes it will inspire new ideas and approaches to break down barriers and increase understanding and engagement between all sections of the community. It also provides a platform for organisations and groups from the community and voluntary sectors to showcase innovative approaches to good relations and working together to build a united community.”
Good Relations Week is coordinated by the Community Relations Council with support from The Executive Office, the Department for Communities, the Department of Justice and other government agencies.
