The finale of the Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council ‘Business Games Challenge’ recently took place at the Dundonald International Ice Bowl with Fusion Heating being crowned overall ‘Business Champion’ after the three stages of the games.

This year was the third ‘Business Games Challenge’, part of the Council’s Business Solutions ‘Investing in Health, Profit in Business’ Programme, jointly funded by the Public Health Agency (PHA).

The games were a three stage challenge of dodgeball, wheelchair basketball and ten pin bowling with businesses from across the City competing for the top prize.

In the dodgeball stage Fusion heating (team B) won the Cup Final and British Steel won the Plate Final.  In the wheelchair basketball stage Johnny McCarthy and his All Star team won the Cup Final and Lagan Valley LeisurePlex won the Plate Final. The final challenge of ten pin bowling saw a joint combination team of Helios IT and Salto Gymnastics win the Plate; Fusion Heating win the Cup, and Dundonald International Ice Bowl win the Ten-Pin Bowling Cup.

Alderman William Leathem, Chairman of the Council’s Development Committee, speaking about the Business Games, said: “It is great to see so many local businesses commit to participating in this three stage challenge, which demonstrates a great team culture across Lisburn Castlereagh business sector.  I commend those local businesses who took part in all three challenges.

“The social aspect of the Business Games brings camaraderie and competitiveness along with valuable networking opportunities.  The health benefits of participating in team sports are positive and one of the key foundations of the Invest in Health, Profit in Business Programme,” concluded Alderman Leathem.

Alderman Paul Porter, Chairman of the Council’s Leisure & Community Development Committee added:  “During my attendance at the events I was amazed by the strong team spirit across all the businesses taking part; and the atmosphere was fantastic as a result of the camaraderie of the teams and the Council Officers who managed the events.

"I would like to thank the PHA for funding this project implemented by the Council. It is a fantastic example of partnership working and supported one of our main goals of encouraging as many people as possible to become involved in physical activity to increase health and wellbeing."

Barbara Porter, Health and Social Wellbeing Improvement Manager from the Public Health Agency’s Belfast and South Eastern Team commented: “This year we have had more businesses than before with the final event hosting 20 businesses.  The games support the PHA’s drive to encourage workplaces to take a healthy approach not only to their working environment but also with their staff.”
