Follow the Council to be part of European Week for Waste Reduction

Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council is pleased to be supporting European Week for Waste Reduction (EWWR), which is taking place from the 21st – 29th November 2015 . 

The theme this year is ‘3Rs and a Clean-Up’.  The 3Rs are: Reduce, Reuse and Recycle and the Clean Up relates to a dedicated day to Clean-Up Europe.

Throughout EWWR, the Council will be using social media to keep its residents informed with 3R tips.

Councillor Brian Hanvey, Chairman of the Council’s Environmental Services Committee, speaking about the campaign, said: “It is great to see the continuing progress that our residents are making with regards to waste reduction, reuse of items and recycling.  Their support and commitment to improve their waste management helps the Council reach its recycling targets, which is much appreciated.

“Our efficient waste collection service collects waste from over 56,000 properties in the Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council area.  However, most of us are aware that the use of bins is not going to solve the waste problem alone.  There are many other efficient ways for every household to make a difference and the Council will be promoting these on its Facebook page throughout EWWR week so be sure to like the corporate page and avail of its waste tips.

“No matter how big or small the item you recycle, where it be a tea bag or Plasma TV, it all makes a difference to help keep our environment clean and reduce the growing costs of waste disposal,” concluded Councillor Hanvey.

As well as the Reduce, Reuse and Recycle, the fourth strand to this year’s European Week for Waste Reduction is a Europe wide clean up.
