Double Britain in Bloom Floral Success for Hillsborough

October 18, 2016

The beautiful village of Hillsborough has received a Gold Medal in the Large Village Category and a Discretionary Heritage Award at the prestigious Britain in Bloom Awards 2016.

The Awards took place in Birmingham on Friday 14th October, where competition finalists from across the UK represent the highest standards of floral maintenance, design and display.

The Chairman of the Council’s Environmental Services Committee, Councillor James Baird, was present at the ceremony and accepted the awards with the Vice-Chairman, Alderman James Tinsley.

Councillor Baird said: “I’d like to thank everyone who works so hard to help make the village look fabulous.  To compete at this national competition level involves significant planning; from nurturing flowers, planting scheme design and maintaining the flowers.  Grateful thanks go to the local community and to the team from Operational Services.

“We look forward to representing the area again in the floral competitions next year as we will be competing in the Champion of Champions section but for now it’s lovely to have the accolades and be pleased at the efforts of all concerned with this year’s double award,” he said.
