Don't Get Caught This Christmas
December 10, 2018
Over the festive season there is an increase in the amount of household waste and the Council would like to remind everyone that fly tipping is illegal.
Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council operates CCTV in dumping hotspots in its area to catch offenders; and following its first successful prosecution against a serial illegal dumping offender recently it will continue to use CCTV footage to prosecute those offenders who fly tip within its boundaries.
Councillor Janet Gray MBE, Chair of the Council’s Environmental Services Committee, said: “Over Christmas many of us have extra waste that we need to dispose of and the Council would remind its residents to be responsible when doing so over the festive period. The Council operates a kerbside waste collection service, three household recycling centres, a bulky collection service and a network of bring banks for its residents to responsibly recycle and dispose of household waste.
“We would urge our residents to use our waste services and not to hire a ‘man in a van’ to dispose of their excess waste as it may end up being part of a fly tipping investigation. The Council has found that some operators are ‘cheap’ as they are irresponsible and dump the waste in a rural area; and it would like to raise awareness of this with its residents. Our Enforcement Officers will be extra vigilant in the coming weeks and they will be assisted by CCTV cameras located across the Council area.”
Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council would like to advise all those individuals who believe it is alright to illegally dump your waste that we will be watching you in Lisburn Castlereagh.
The opening hours of Council’s three Household Recycling centres over the festive period are: 9.00am – 4.00pm on 24th and 31st December. They are all closed on the 25th, 26th December and 2nd January; and normal opening hours on the 27th, 28th, 29th December and from 2nd January.
