Disability & Autism Friendly Swimming Sessions Underway at Lagan Valley LeisurePlex

Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council is pleased to introduce a 2nd programme of Disability and Autism Friendly Leisure Pool Sessions at Lagan Valley LeisurePlex.
Taking place in the Leisure Pool, the sessions are aimed at families with members who are disabled, or on the Autistic Spectrum. The respective sessions will take place on alternative weeks every Tuesday with the pan disability friendly Leisure Pool sessions, which are also available to participants with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), running from 10th January until 4th April 2017, and with the Autism Spectrum Disorder Leisure Pool Sessions running from 17th January until 28th March 2017. Speaking about the launch of the Leisure Pool sessions, the Chairman of the Leisure & Community Development Committee, Councillor Tim Morrow, said: “The Council endeavours, where feasible, to provide an inclusive service throughout all facilities so I am very pleased that we have been able to accommodate further Disability and Autism Friendly Swimming Sessions at Lagan Valley LeisurePlex.
The sessions will provide participants and their families with an hour and a half of fun in the Leisure Pool. The sessions will include fun floats, balls and rings for extra enjoyment, and all within a controlled and supervised environment. I would encourage parents who have family members with a disability, or ASD, as well as their siblings, to come along and give one of the sessions a go”.
