Defibrillator Donated to Business Centre in Dundonald
December 11, 2017
The Danny Mills Heart Foundation has donated a defibrillator to the Urban Fitness Gym in Inspire Business Centre, Dundonald.
Elected representatives of Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council attended the presentation of the defibrillator by the Danny Mills Heart Foundation, which was set up in memory of Danny Mills, a 21 year old from Bangor, who was a victim of sudden adult death syndrome (SADS).
The Mayor, Councillor Tim Morrow, said: “It is humbling to see a tragedy being turned into a positive with Danny’s family leading the cause of raising awareness of the need for accessible defibrillators. I commend their commitment as they selflessly put others first to ensure another family doesn’t lose a loved one to SADS.”
Danny Mills, 21, was found dead in his living room on New Year’s Day two years ago. Since then the Danny Mills Heart Foundation has raised more than £50,000 and donated 15 defibrillators to local organisations.
Alderman Allan Ewart MBE, Chairman of the Council’s Development Committee added: “It is great to see a local business centre working closely with a charitable foundation to provide lifesaving equipment that is accessible to the public. Inspire Business Centre is very busy all year round with the type of companies located within its site ranging from a gym to a health treatment facilities and a café to web design company. The former Lisburn council awarded the inventor of the defibrillator Professor Frank Pantridge MBE the freedom of the borough in 1990; and we are very proud of his accomplishment that has saved millions of lives around the world.”
Inspire Business Centre CEO, Dr Mark Brotherston, would like to thank the foundation for considering the placement of one of their donated defibrillators at Inspire Business Centre in Dundonald. He said: “We have a very active gym – Urban Fitness, at our location, which is utilised 24/7 all year round, delivering a wide range of cardiovascular fitness programmes, which are linked with over 70 companies located onsite. We consistently promote a healthy work life balance, and the placement of the defibrillator will play its part in facilitating that balance. I would recommend contacting The Danny Mills Heart Foundation, to find out more about how to make a donation, and participate in the wider placement of the defibrillator.”
Danny Mills mother Pauline added: “We don’t want anyone in this world to go through what we’ve been through and if these defibrillators can save even just one life, then that’s Daniel’s legacy living on. Being able to place defibrillators in a sports location or schools means that we know that if a child or an adult has a heart problem there’s a chance there for their life to be saved.”
The Danny Mills Foundation welcomes the opportunity to come and talk to groups, be it small or large, to make them aware of what SADS is and who it can affect. If you are interested in having the Foundation come and talk to you, please contact them at admin@dannymillsfoundation.com
