Council to reopen its play parks and outdoor gyms

July 3, 2020

Council owned play parks and outdoor gyms will reopen from Friday 10th July, in line with the NI Executive’s phased approach to recovery.

It is imperative that parents judge the risk of COVID-19 to themselves and their family before entering the play parks. Parents are responsible for the hygiene of their children when using these public facilities during the coronavirus situation.  All parents are encouraged to bring cleansing wipes to clean their hands and those of their children before and after using the play facilities.

Alderman Michael Henderson MBE, Leisure & Community Development Committee Chairman, speaking about the reopening of play parks, said: “After being closed for a long period of time to prevent the spread of COVID-19 we will be inspecting our play parks and outdoor gyms and cleaning the equipment before they reopen in advance of the public holiday weekend.

“Once opened I would remind parents and carers to avoid the play park if they or their children show any symptoms of COVID-19.  They must also bring adequate wipes and hand sanitiser to keep their hands clean before and after playing.  The same hygiene requirements apply to those using the outdoor gym equipment.  It is also important that social distancing is maintained and that children are supervised at all times.”

Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council would like to remind everyone to be sensible when using the play parks and outdoor gyms.  Rubbish should be disposed of responsibly, either within the bins provided or taken home.
