Council to hold public screening of Northern Ireland v Germany football match

April 29, 2016

Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council will screen the forthcoming Northern Ireland v Germany football match on Tuesday 21st June in Market Square Lisburn.

The event is aimed at families and plans are currently underway regarding arrangements for the screening; including pre-match entertainment.  Cool FM Roadshow will entertain the public before the match and during half time.  The Roadshow will commence at 3pm with the match kicking off at 5pm.

Alderman Paul Porter, Chairman of the Leisure and Community Development Committee, launched the event with special guest Charlie Anderson from Lisburn who is currently Captain of the U13 Northern Ireland Elite; Councillor Aaron McIntyre, Vice-Chairman and Alderman Allan Ewart, Chairman of the Development Committee.

Alderman Porter said: “We are delighted to announce that the Northern Ireland v Germany football match will be screened in the City Centre on the 21st June, with some form of pre-match entertainment for families from the early afternoon.  As details are finalised they will be made available.

“I was also glad to meet Charlie Anderson who is a local resident.  Charlie has participated in both national and international competition for his country to such places as Qatar, and Latvia.  He also attends the Manchester United Academy and recently had a trial for Arsenal.

Alderman Allan Ewart said: “The new public realm space is now completed and the council considered it would be a great location for an open-air event.  I hope local residents will plan to attend this event as there is fantastic support for Northern Ireland in the forthcoming UEFA competition.”

Crowd control measures will be put in place and no alcohol is permitted for the public screening event.  Further information will be made available in due course.
