Books of Condolence for Paris Attacks Opened

The Mayor, Councillor Thomas Beckett, has signed Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council’s Books of Condolence for victims of the Paris Attacks, which took place on Friday 13th November.

The Books of Condolence opened at 11am today at the Council’s Headquarters Lagan Valley Island in Lisburn. Books of Condolence are also at Bradford Court Offices Castlereagh; at the Lagan Valley LeisurePlex; the Dundonald International Ice Bowl and at the Irish Linen Centre.

Councillor Beckett said: “The attacks carried out in Paris, which emerged on Friday night and which have dominated world headlines since, is almost unbelievable.  The loss of life; the suffering and devastation for those affected must be beyond what we can imagine.

“We understand that families have lost loved ones and that they are reeling in indescribable shock and grief. We think of those hundreds of victims who sustained injuries and of the search for loved ones caught up in the atrocities.”

The Chairman of the Corporate Services Committee, Alderman James Tinsley, said: “The cruel attacks on people enjoying themselves in different parts of Paris have come as dreadful news, with death and injury on a massive scale.  Our prayers go out to the people of France and our deepest sympathies go to the bereaved families and those in hospital suffering injury.

“Our Books of Condolence will be sent to the French Honorary Consulate to show our sympathy and support with other organisations and local authorities across the world,” he concluded.
