Council launches new gym at Billy Neill MBE Country Park

September 28, 2020

Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council has opened a brand new gym at Billy Neill MBE Country Park in Dundonald as part of its continuing commitment to provide health and wellbeing facilities and opportunities for residents and visitors.

Surrounded by beautiful walking trails and outstanding scenery, the new Vitality gym is a welcome addition to the popular Billy Neill facility located on the Comber Road in the outskirts of Dundonald. Both Vitality members and customers can enjoy a workout overlooking stunning views in the brand new 40 station gym with state-of-the-art Technogym aerobic, fixed resistance and free weights equipment.

The Mayor of Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council, Councillor Nicholas Trimble, speaking about the launch of the new gym said: “The council is pleased to invest in a new gym facility at Billy Neill MBE Country Park and provide a much needed health & fitness offering in the east of the council area.

“During these unprecedented times it is important for people to have the opportunity to incorporate regular activity into their lifestyle to enhance both their physical and mental health. The council has also put measures in place to help bring people together in a safe and controlled environment, which is essential during these current restrictions.

“Billy Neill MBE Country Park is already a popular attraction with families and fitness enthusiasts so I have no doubt that the new Vitality gym will be a welcome addition to the facility by giving people a choice of indoor and outdoor leisure options.”

Alderman Michael Henderson MBE, Chairman of the Leisure & Community Development Committee, added, “The council is delighted to open a new gym facility at Billy Neill MBE Country Park to provide a further choice of venues for Vitality members and customers looking to return to physical activity or take their first step to getting active.

“The new gym is equipped with the latest Technogym equipment and includes a wide choice of machines and equipment for a full body workout. Group exercise classes are also available at Dundonald International Ice Bowl and there will be a seasonal programme of activities hosted at Billy Neill so there is no better place to keep fit, socialise and stay active.

“The gym will also operate in accordance with government guidelines for gathering limits and social distancing to safeguard customers and staff. This includes the operation of a stringent and regular cleaning regime, along with restricted numbers and times within the gym to put customers mind at rest.

“Gym sessions must be booked online via the Dundonald International Ice Bowl website www.theicebowl.com and through the Vitality App. An induction must also be completed before customers can use the gym, which again can be booked online.

“I would encourage residents and members to book a session and try this fantastic gym set in an outstanding backdrop, something which is unique for an urban facility.”
