Council launches Eco Artist Competition

July 30, 2021

Calling all budding artists! Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council has launched an exciting competition for you to show off your creative talents and to help raise awareness of environmental issues impacting local communities.

Councillor Andrew Ewing, Chairman of the Council’s Environmental Services Committee, said: “We are inviting residents living in the council area, of all ages, to enter our Eco Artist Competition for the chance to have their artwork displayed online and to win a prize of an eco themed goodie bag.

“The competition brief is to produce an image that illustrates a particular environmental issue with a slogan or message that is a call to action to encourage citizens to change their behaviour and do the right thing to help protect their local environment.”

Topics should address one, or a combination, of the following:

  • Litter or Illegal Dumping
  • Single-use plastic reduction
  • Reduce/reuse/recycle/repurpose

There are four competition categories; 8 and under, 12 and under, 17 and under and adult. Each age category will have an overall winner and two runners up.

The competition will run online from Friday 30th July to Thursday 30th September 2021. Winners will be announced on the council’s social media channels and website during European Week for Waste Reduction from 20 - 28th November 2021.

To enter, please submit a photograph of a piece of your own unique artwork. Please note artwork can be a hand drawing, a painting, a piece of art using upcycled materials or digital art.

All competition entries will be judged by a cross departmental team within the council after the closing date.

Each of the winners will have an image of their piece of art displayed on the council website, and they will receive an Eco Goodie bag. Winning entries may also be used in future council environmental awareness campaigns.
