Council Gets Ready for Its Summer of 'Park Life'

June 21, 2016

There has been a taste of summer weather and the Council hopes the sunshine returns for its summer programme ‘Park Life’ that will take in Wallace Park, Lisburn and Moat Park, Dundonald.

From Saturday 2nd July to Sunday 21st August, these two parks will play host to a wide range of family fun days during Saturdays and Sundays.

This year’s Park Life programme is packed with events to suit all ages and range from a Vintage Tea Dance to a Flower and Animal Fun Day and includes a Teddy Bears Picnic, a Drama Performance to celebrate the Queen’s 90th Birthday, a ‘Pirates and Princesses’ play and a Mini Mela.

The Mayor, Councillor Brian Bloomfield said he hoped as many people as possible will support and enjoy the events.  Speaking at the launch he said: “Both Wallace Park and Moat Park are central locations that offer excellent facilities for residents of Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council area.  What better way for our residents to enjoy the summer sunshine than to come along to Park Life during July and August.

“There is much talk about holidaying at home these days and with so many wonderful events for all the family planned in Moat Park and Wallace Park, right on our doorstep, it is gearing up for a super Summer in Lisburn and Castlereagh,” said Councillor Bloomfield.

Councillor Tim Morrow, Chairman of the Council’s Leisure & Community Development Committee added: “It is fantastic news that this year the Council has secured a summer programme for Moat Park in addition to the annual one in Wallace Park.  It is hoped that with the two Park Life programmes running in tandem that this year will be bigger and better than ever.

“The Council likes to see its parks being enjoyed by visitors and residents and it is hoped that these shared spaces will be enjoyed by all local communities during the course of the events.  I would encourage people to get a copy of the Park Life brochure and find out what is on over the summertime.

“Park Life offers something for all the family, from young to old.  We’ve arranged pantomimes, superhero characters, teddy bears picnics, a mini sports festival, and a Pirates and Princess Play day, as well as live performances from silver, flute, pipe and brass bands within the two parks.  The list just goes on and on,” said Councillor Morrow.

All events are free and open to the public.
