Council Forms Partnership with Carnegie UK
June 25, 2018
Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council’s Strategic Community Planning Partnership is delighted to have been chosen to be part of the Carnegie UK ‘Embedding Wellbeing in Northern Ireland’ project.
Through this three year project the Lisburn & Castlereagh Strategic Community Planning Partnership (SCPP) will receive financial and in-kind support to improve the wellbeing of our residents.
Wellbeing is a term that encapsulates economic, social, environmental and democratic outcomes. It allows for everyone having what they need to live well now and in the future.
Dr Theresa Donaldson, Chief Executive of the Council said: “To have our council recognised by Carnegie UK is a significant achievement. This organisation has been working for over 100 years to improve wellbeing within the UK and it has extensive experience of providing local and central government with policy development. We will embrace the opportunity to work with them.”
Alderman William Leathem, Chairman of the SCPP, added: “I am very pleased the Council has been chosen as a partner. Through community planning we are committed to creating a health and connected community within the Lisburn Castlereagh area. Through our Community Plan and Action Plan we will create a vibrant and sustainable economy to make the Council area an appealing place to live, work and learn.
“We will also form a peer to peer support network with the other project participants: Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon Borough Council and Derry City and Strabane District Council to share knowledge, learn from each other and international best practise for addressing any challenges that may be encountered. The three project participants will also share their experiences with the other eight NI councils at key stages over the next three years.
“The SCPP has identified a number of actions and programmes that complement the draft Programme for Government. We are looking forward to working with Carnegie UK to gather data on the outcomes of our community plan actions and measuring their progress over the next three years. Within the Lisburn Castlereagh area we have embraced the opportunity offered by community planning to work with our partners to streamline services and make better use of budgets,” concluded Alderman Leathem.
