Council Encourages Residents to get HealthWise This February

February 1, 2017

Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council is encouraging residents to take part in a new, free, health and well-being initiative at Lagan Valley LeisurePlex next month, called, ‘Feel Good February’!

Funded by the Public Health Agency, the aim of the ‘Feel Good February’ initiative is to encourage better physical and mental well-being across the Council area.  The programme will provide residents with the opportunity to try a range of active and relaxation classes, as well as learn how nutrition and mindfulness plays an important role in helping maintain a healthy body and mind.

The taster sessions (more information available here) will kick off on Monday 6th February with a week long programme on ‘Mindfulness’, focusing on releasing stress and anxiety.  Classes include, Tai Chi, Mindfulness Meditation, Yoga as well as other active and relaxation classes. There will also be a women only circuit class, suitable for all levels, every Tuesday throughout February from 5.15pm – 5.45pm. To book a place on the circuit class, please call 028 9081 4884 or email eba.2020@lisburncastlereagh.gov.uk

Also, for anyone who may be interested in learning how to improve eating habits and maintain a balanced diet, a health and nutrition seminar will take place on Wednesday 15th February from 7pm until 9pm.

Speaking about the launch of the new health and well-being initiative, Chairman of the Leisure and Community Development Committee, Councillor Tim Morrow said: “I am a huge advocate of all initiatives that enable people to get active and lead a healthier lifestyle. ‘Feel Good February’ is an excellent initiative that does just that!

“The programme provides the perfect platform for people to try an activity, gain a better understanding on how to lead a better lifestyle, both physically and mentally, with the hope that they start to build physical activity and wellbeing activities into their daily lives.

“I would encourage everyone to come along to one of the classes during February, try something different and reap the benefits”.
