Colour Fills the Air at Wallace Park

October 16, 2019

Eighty participants enjoyed a colourful extravaganza as they took part in Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council’s recent ‘Colour Blast’ event, organised specifically for people with physical, sensory and learning disabilities.

The event involved individuals from schools, community groups and families who descended on Wallace Park to be doused in a rainbow of vibrant colours as they completed the inner park route.

Starting the event, the Chairman of the Council’s Leisure and Community Development Committee, Alderman James Tinsley said, “I am extremely delighted to launch another highly successful Colour Blast event at Wallace Park.  The event is now in its third year and it is fantastic to see so many groups and individuals returning year on year to enjoy such a fun community event.

“The Council strives to offer a programme of activities and services which are inclusive and accessible for all therefore events such as the Colour Blast provide essential opportunities to improve health and wellbeing opportunities for people with disabilities.”

The Vice Chair of the Leisure & Community Development Committee, Councillor Hazel Legge added, “The Colour Blast is a superb event to bring the community together for a fun morning with families, schools and carers. The event started with a fun Zumba warm up exercise followed by the big event which saw participants being doused with a rainbow of colours across the various Colour Blast stations.

“It was fantastic to witness so many smiling faces as participants crossed the finishing line which is testimony to the success of this very popular event.”

The Colour Blast links to the health and wellbeing theme of the Lisburn Castlereagh Community Plan, which is a statutory plan to improve the area for the betterment of all.

Groups participating in the Colour Blast included Autism NI, SERC Job Club, Lisburn Adult Resource Centre, Parkview School, Orchardville and Killard House.
