Christmas Switch On
November 2, 2016
This year’s festive season gets underway with the Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council annual Christmas Lights Switch On which takes place in Market Square, Lisburn on Thursday 17th November from 6.30pm.
This magical family event will kick start the festive season with a big Christmas welcome from pre-parade entertainers, music from the main stage area, a lantern parade and the evening will be compered compèred by Q Radio’s Stephen Clements.
The Mayor of Lisburn, Cllr Brian Bloomfield MBE, speaking about the event, said: “The City’s Christmas Switch On is always popular and I am looking forward to welcoming everyone to this wonderful family event. I am delighted that Harmony Hill Primary School choir will be providing the pre-parade carols.
“There will be a great festive atmosphere and families are encouraged to come along, sing carols and enjoy the evening’s festivities from 6.00pm.”
Councillor Owen Gawith, Chairman of the Council’s Corporate Services Committee, said: “It is fantastic that the Switch-On will once again take place in the City Centre. On arrival, Christmas Characters will welcome families; and especially the younger children will enjoy meeting these cuddly festive characters.
“The Council is delighted that once again SERC’s performing arts students will be part of the event dressed as characters from the Nutcracker as they distribute giveaways to the crowd. Local schoolchildren from six local primary schools will be taking part in the Lantern Parade carrying their homemade lanterns and they will be accompanied by professional carnival performers.”
Santa Claus will of course be making an appearance on his sleigh to wish all the boys and girls a very Merry Christmas.
