Chairman Welcomes DfI Action On Parking Responsibilities

March 25, 2020

Alderman Allan Ewart MBE, Development Committee Chairman welcomes the latest decision by Minister Mallon in relation to parking enforcement and on-street parking charges.  He said: “This decision complements the one taken by the council regarding its off-street car parks.  I would ask that everyone who is parking in the Lisburn Castlereagh area during these times to park safely.  I welcome that parking enforcement will only be actioned, by the Department for Infrastructure (DfI), for those vehicles parked illegally in an unsafe manner or blocking access to emergency or essential services.

“If you are out during the current lockdown period to get essential items, medications or get some exercise please only use a car park space for the minimum amount of time.  This will allow as many as possible to get the items they need from essential shops and health professionals to get access to their workplaces. Think of wheelchairs and prams when parking and remember to Stay Safe.”

Changes to these plans for parking enforcement and on-street parking charges will be the decision of DfI and the council will promote them.
