CD Fair Dental take on Slieve Donard

June 1, 2018

Local Lisburn dentist, CD Fair Dental, will take on the gruelling Slieve Donard Challenge kicking off Friday 1st June 2018 in aid of the British Heart Foundation.

Around 20 people will be involved in the hike that includes members of staff, suppliers as well as family and friends of the Lisburn based dental practice. This group of eager participants will lace up their boots for the challenging 850 metre climb to the highest peak in the Mourne Mountains estimated to take 6 hours.

The Slieve Donard Challenge has been taken on by CD Fair Dental following an incident in 2017 where Clare Doyle, the surgery’s dental nurse, suffered a cardiac arrest. Thanks to school training run by The British Heart Foundation, her daughter was equipped with key lifesaving skills and administered CPR at home until the emergency services arrived with a defibulator. Clare thankfully made a full recovery and is now back with the team at CD Fair Dental and hopes to raise as much money as possible for the cause that helped save her life.

To help with their funding efforts, the award winning dentist has raised valuable funds through a recent Ballot. The Mayor of Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council, Councillor Tim Morrow was on hand to draw the winning tickets for an array of prizes including vouchers, money and dental products. In total, the ballot raised an impressive £1,500.

Speaking about the ballot and the challenge that lay ahead, The Mayor, Councillor Tim Morrow commented “I am delighted to have been invited along to carry out the draw of the ballot ahead of this impressive challenge. After hearing Clare’s story I am blown away by the quick thinking and extraordinary skills of her daughter. I admire the dental team for organising this trek to raise funds that will help save more lives in the future.

He continued; “Lisburn and Castlereagh City Council is one of the British Heart Foundations official Heart Cities that encourages communities come together in the fight against heart disease.  It is a fantastic charity and I wish the team at CD Fair Dental the greatest success for the challenge that lies ahead.”

Speaking about the Slieve Donard Challenge, Clare Doyle commented; “I am very thankful to my daughter and to the British Heart Foundation. This challenge will help raise necessary funds for The British Heart Foundation, an organisation that helps train people to preform CPR in an emergency situation.

She continued “Cardiac arrests affect approximately 1,400 people in Northern Ireland alone and it is something that can happen to anyone.

CD Dental will continue to raise money for the Slieve Donard Challenge in aid of the British Heart Foundation through a collection box within the surgery in Lisburn and also through their Just Giving page at www.justgiving.com/fundraising/cdfairdentalslievedonardchallenge where they have already raised over £500.
