Business Play 'Dodge' at LeisurePlex

Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council organised a dodge ball tournament for local businesses to pit their ‘strategic moves’ against each other at the Lagan Valley LeisurePlex recently.

The Public Health Agency and the Council’s Economic Development Unit funded the tournament through the ‘Invest in Health, Profit in Business’ programme.

Alderman Allan Ewart, Chairman of the Council’s Economic & Development Committee, speaking at the tournament, said: “I am delighted at the turnout of this inaugural business dodge ball tournament.  The number of companies that participated is fantastic with sport, retail, consulting, beauty and hospitality some of the sectors represented.  This event was to be fun and to help teams socialise and build up camaraderie and that has been evident across all of the matches.  The skills of all of the teams have been evident and I noticed that a few must have had several practice games in preparation for this tournament.

“I would like to congratulate Fusion Heating on taking ‘top spot’ and I hope that there will be multiple companies wishing to challenge them in the next tournament to become the ‘Dodge ball Champions’.  May I also take this opportunity to thank the officers in the Council for organising this event in particular Kevin Madden.  This tournament would not have been possible without the financial assistance of the Public Health Agency and I am sure they were impressed by the energy expended and the exercise undertaken at this team spirited tournament,” concluded Alderman Ewart.

The businesses which took part were People First, Fusion Heating, Norman Elliott & Company, Pattersons, McGuire-Farry, Hampton Estates, Cardan, Lagan Valley LeisurePlex, Sweet Street Café, Allen Logistics, Edenmore, Moore-Braniff, 4 Beauty, Ian Black Consulting, Tech Group and Danske Bank.

Barbara Porter, Health and Social Wellbeing senior officer from the Public Health Agency’s South Eastern Team added: “This has been a fantastic turn out; getting physical activity onto the workplace agenda is difficult when you have colleagues of all abilities and interests.  This event enabled everyone to have a bit fun, burn of any work stress from the day and to work as a team.  It was very well organised and credit to Kevin Madden and his team for making this event one we would really want to see happen again.”
