Belarus Children Visit Dundonald Ice Bowl
August 9, 2016
A group of children from Belarus and their host families have enjoyed a day of fun packed activities at Dundonald International Ice Bowl during their recent visit to Northern Ireland.
Organised by Chernobyl Children’s Appeal NI, the children are staying with local families to provide a short health break from the radiation affected areas in their own country.
Welcoming the group, the Deputy Mayor of Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council, Alderman Stephen Martin said, “Chernobyl Children’s Appeal NI have been visiting Dundonald International Ice Bowl over the last decade and its poignant that we can welcome another group of children to the facility this year in what marks the 30th anniversary of the Chernobyl disaster.
“Many of these children have faced major challenges during their young lives therefore it is fantastic to see the enjoyment on their faces as they take part in the activities within the centre. The benefits of the summer programme are remarkable as it provides significant health benefits, which includes boosting children’s immune system and positivity by taking them out of a contaminated area, even for a few weeks.”
Councillor Alan Givan, Vice Chairman of Leisure & Community Services added, “I would like to thank Chernobyl Children’s Appeal NI for organising the visit and the host families who warmly invite these children into their home to be part of their family during their stay. I hope the group enjoy the remainder of their time in Northern Ireland and look forward to welcoming many more groups back to Dundonald International Ice Bowl in the future.”
