June 14, 2016
A 21-Gun Royal Salute was held in Hillsborough Fort on Saturday 11th June to honour Queen Elizabeth’s 90th Birthday.
The Council was delighted to welcome the Lord Lieutenant for County Tyrone, Robert Scott; who was accompanied to the Fort by the Mayor, Councillor Beckett, Mayoress, Mrs Linda Beckett, Chief Executive, Dr Theresa Donaldson and MP Jeffrey Donaldson.
The event took place in the charming setting of Hillsborough Fort and was well attended by the public. The Band of the Royal Irish Regiment led guests to the Fort and entertained all those present with fabulous music including a rendition of Happy Birthday to Her Majesty.
The Royal Salute was fired at 12noon and a fly-over was organised from 5 Regiment, Army Air Corps. The Lord Lieutenant inspected the 206 Ulster Battery with the Mayor and the crowds enjoyed musical performances from Drumlough Pipe Band and the Ulster Scots Agency Juvenile Pipe Band.
Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council would like to thank all participants involved.
