The Ice Bowl gets its skates on with multi-million pound redevelopment

Dundonald International Ice Bowl is to be redeveloped in a multi-million pound project over the next three years.

In 2026, local people and visitors from across Northern Ireland and beyond will be able to enjoy a state-of-the-art leisure facility with an Olympic-sized ice rink; a 24-lane bowling alley; a 100-station gym; community rooms; a restaurant and coffee shop.

Visitor numbers to this exciting new leisure facility are expected to rise to more than 700,000 in the first year. This will help grow our economy regionally, create jobs and enhance tourism within the LCCC and greater Belfast area.

As the only permanent, Olympic-sized ice rink on the island of Ireland, it will provide fit-for-purpose facilities for elite ice skaters to develop their talents and become the official training ice pad for professional ice hockey team, the Belfast Giants.

The new Ice Bowl will include changing place facilities and a full range of accessible equipment supporting people to enjoy the gym, ice and bowling.

As well as creating an exceptional regional sporting facility and an exciting visitor destination that supports local jobs in a local setting, the new venue will also serve as a community hub.

The new design incorporates meeting rooms and other facilities and we plan to have a digital interface that will help local groups engage with the council, whether they need information on available grants, advice on local issues or assistance on a range of services.

The existing Ice Bowl will remain open for business with full access to all activities while construction work on the new build is planned to begin on an adjacent site later this year.
