Well Done to Our Pride of Place Nominees

Two groups from the Lisburn Castlereagh area received awards at the recent IPB Pride of Place Awards in association with Co-operation Ireland.
Seymour Hill & Conway Residents Group was runner up in Category 3 of the Cities Competition - Urban Neighbourhoods / Villages (with a population over 2,000) for its diverse range of activities for all ages within the community to improve the area and communication with statutory bodies.
DreamScheme Northern Ireland was runner up in Category 5 of the Cities Competition for its Community Based Youth Initiatives project.
The Deputy Mayor, Councillor Hazel Legge, speaking about the awards said: “The Council is very proud of all its nominees in the Pride of Place awards. We are delighted that two of our groups received runner up prizes in this highly competitive all-Ireland competition, which had 49 finalists. These awards acknowledge the achievements and the invaluable work undertaken by volunteers and those involved in local community development. It was a privilege to see two Lisburn Castlereagh groups receive awards.”
Alderman James Tinsley, Chairman of the Council’s Leisure & Community Development Committee, added: “The fact that two of our local groups received awards is a testament to their hard work and dedication to making a difference within the community. Both Seymour Hill & Conway Residents Group and DreamScheme NI work hard to improve their local communities for the betterment of all. Through a range of activities and regular communication they ensure respect for the local area and heritage and culture of others.”
The Council also proudly nominated Lagan Valley Regional Park for the ‘Community Environmental Initiative’ category for its cultural, social and biodiversity initiatives along the towpath connecting the two cities of Lisburn and Belfast. It operates with a large volunteer base alongside the four full-time staff to help protect the wildlife within the Park and keep the area attractive to visitors. The Council wishes to acknowledge their outstanding work.
