Training Available for Local Groups

June 12, 2018

Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council’s Community Development Unit has designed a training calendar to build capacity and skills within the Lisburn Castlereagh communities.

The Council has partnered with a number of training providers to ensure these accredited and non-accredited training courses are suited to enable participants from community and voluntary groups to apply their learning in a practical way, allow for peer learning and networking opportunities.

Alderman Paul Porter, Chairman of the Council’s Leisure & Community Development Committee, speaking about the new training on offer, said: “These training courses cover a range of areas from defibrillator training to food safety and child protection to assistance with completing funding applications. I would encourage members of local community and voluntary groups to avail of these free courses between September and December.

“It is important to the Council to ensure that local groups have access to support and training; and our community services team provide this.  Local groups play a vital role in communities across the Lisburn Castlereagh area and these courses will allow their members to increase their skills base and open up opportunities for these groups.  The accredited Community Capacity Building Courses allow for the development of committees (OCN Level 1) and the development of a successful community project (OCN Level 2). Please contact the Council to register you free place,” concluded Alderman Porter.
