The Daily Apron bakes up a storm in Lisburn’s first artisan bakery

November 4, 2021

The Daily Apron has opened Lisburn‘s first artisan bakery. Located in Market Square and led by Cathy, an award-winning baker, the shop offers handcrafted sourdough breads made fresh every day, as well as bespoke cakes and homemade sweet and savoury pastries.

Having been in business in Lisburn for 20 years, Cathy and her partner Catriona are passionate, committed and energised by this new venture, which follows the success of their main café located on the first floor in Smyth Patterson`s. The expansion was made possible with help from Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council’s (LCCC) Urban Investment Fund, who gave financial support to make their dream a reality.

The dynamic duo have recruited five bakery and patisserie apprentices from SERC and firmly believe their venture is a fantastic opportunity to learn, grow and invest in the future of local young people within the hospitality sector.

Ald Amanda Grehan, Chair of LCCC’s Development Committee, said: “The Daily Apron is a fabulous addition to our city centre. Cathy has a great passion for her business and I wish her every success for the future. I’m pleased to say The Daily Apron is one of 12 new businesses that have benefitted from the Urban Investment Fund in Lisburn and Castlereagh. The fund has attracted many new visitors to the council area and boosted the local economy.”

A Department for Communities spokesperson said: “The DfC Minister introduced the Covid-19 Recovery Revitalisation Programme to support the recovery of our towns and city centres in their recovery.  Lisburn and Castlereagh City Council has received over £1million through the programme.  These funding initiatives will help encourage people back into our towns and city centres to spend time, to support our local businesses and ultimately to help keep our town and city centres alive and prosperous.”
