Roll Up! Roll Up!  Prepare to Be Dazzled as ‘The City of Lisburn & Castlereagh 2019 Mayor’s Carnival Parade & Family Fun Day ‘It’s ShowTime!’ Comes to Town on Saturday 6 April 2019.

Lisburn is the place to be on Saturday 6 April 2019, when the curtain raises on ‘The City of Lisburn & Castlereagh 2019 Mayor’s Carnival Parade and Family Fun Day, ‘It’s ShowTime!’.

 

Thousands of revellers are expected to throng the carnival route to see the show–stopping swirl of movement and colour makes its way from ISLAND Arts Centre through the city centre streets. Carnival begins at 1pm at ISLAND Arts Centre and flows through Lisburn City Centre. There’s plenty of opportunity to capture the carnival magic.   

Mayor’s Carnival Parade 1 – 2pm

This year’s epic extravaganza combines the dazzling spectacle of Ireland’s most celebrated carnival acts, and a host of fabulous entertainment experiences.

Add wildly energetic, infectious music and dance rhythms, against an impressive, panorama of floats and carnival creations created local school children and community groups and you have a technicolour tour de force for families and visitors to enjoy.

 

Family Fun Day, Wallace Park 12.30 – 5pm

It’s ShowTime! festive fun continues with a multitude of theatrical treats and electrifying acts with a Greatest Showman vibe.

A highlight is the world premiere of ‘The Showman is Coming’.  Starring West End Les Miserables leading man, Peter Corry it combines the passion of Moulin Rouge, Bohemian Rhapsody with the spectacle of Barnum Circus and the energy of The Greatest Showman. 

A dedicated Kids’ Zone will host a busy programme for families to enjoy.   Activities include Cups and Saucers, Bungee Trampoline, inflatables,

face painting, balloon modelling and hands-on arts and craft workshops. 

Adrenaline junkies can feel a rush of excitement with the G Force Amusements Funfair, circus spectacular and magic acts.  While car enthusiasts can get close to a cavalcade of retro cars.

Funds raised from this year’s event will go to the official Mayoral Charity, Cancer Fund for Children. 

 

Parking Advice

Mayor’s Carnival Parade & Family Fun Day is a popular event and attracts large crowds.

There is no parking available onsite other than limited parking for Blue Badge holders at Parkmount car-park at the Belfast Road side of Wallace Park. All Blue Badge holders MUST fully and correctly display their permit on their vehicle’s dashboard. Parking restrictions will be in place in areas surrounding Wallace Park.

Visitors must extend all reasonable courtesy to the needs of local residents.

Notification of Wallace Park Closures

Wallace Park will be closed to the public from 10am – 2pm and from 10pm on Friday 5 April, it will reopen when the Family Fun Day begins at 12.30pm on Saturday 6 April.

Please note there may be some noise disturbance due to rehearsals taking place on the afternoon and evening of Friday 5 April.

Wallace Park will close again at 5pm on Saturday 6 April after the event and will reopen on the morning of Sunday 7 April.

The Parkmount car-park will be closed from 10pm on Thursday 4 April until the morning of Sunday 7 April, with the limited exception of Blue Badge holders attending the Family Fun Day.  Park closures are essential for safety purposes in preparation and clearance of the event site.

Notification letters have been distributed to local residents and Wallace Park closures will be advertised via the Council’s social media and digital platforms, event press releases and on the entrances to Wallace Park.
