Team Ulster Kicks Off Special Olympics Campaign

June 14, 2018

Alderman Paul Porter, Chairman of the Council’s Leisure & Community Development Committee has extended best wishes to the athletes representing Team Ulster as they prepare to compete in the first day of the Special Olympics in Dublin later today.

Alderman Porter, said, “As Chairman of the Leisure & Community Development Committee, I would like to wish all the athletes and volunteers every success as they represent Team Ulster against other participants across the Isle of Ireland. I was delighted to meet to some of the athletes at a reception at Lagan Valley Island earlier in the month and I was overwhelmed by the scale of sporting talent within our Council area.

“I appreciate the dedication and training which is involved in preparing for a major competition from both an athlete and coaching perspective. I look forward to meeting the athletes again on their return from the Games, hopefully with some medals too!”
