Taja adds her own Christmas sparkle to Lisburn

November 30, 2018

Local school children recently entered a fantastic competition to design a festive light for their city centre, as part of Lisburn Light Festival.  Entries flowed in as young children from P1-P3 were given the amazing opportunity to see their drawing made into a dazzling light and displayed in Lisburn City Centre.

Five year old Taja Branceviciute from Killowen Primary School was the lucky winner and her light was illuminated at the spectacular annual Christmas Lights Switch On in Market Square.  Taja designed a beautiful red and white candy cane with a green bow which is now on display outside the Irish Linen Centre & Lisburn Museum for everyone to see. As part of her prize Taja and her family enjoyed a lovely afternoon treat in the newly refurbished Mauds on Antrim Street.

Chairman of Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council’s Development Committee, Alderman William Leathem commented:  “On behalf of the Council I would like to congratulate Taja on her winning design. Taja’s candy cane light truly is spectacular and is a fantastic addition to the inaugural Lisburn Light Festival.  I’d like to thank AJC Group for sponsoring the competition and for their creative input into the lighting of Lisburn Light Festival.”

Chris Clarke, Director, AJC Group added: “We are pleased to be a part of the innovative new festival here in Lisburn City Centre. We also wanted to support the Council in engaging with the local community and presented the idea of the ‘Design a Light competition’. It was hard to select a winner from so many wonderful entries but we all agree the final light produced by our team from Taja's original drawing looks great.”

Don’t miss the popular Light Canopy show running daily at 4:00pm, 6:00pm and 8:00pm on Bow Street and the animated Christmas Tree light show which will run daily at 4:30pm, 6:30pm and 8:30pm in Market Square until January 19.
