Statement on potential relocation of TECH Europe

September 12, 2018

Alderman William Leathem, Chairman of the Council’s Development Committee is disappointed to hear that local company TECH Europe may be relocating from its sole UK based in Lisburn to Belgium, which would potentially cause 53 job losses in the local area.

Alderman William Leathem said:  “Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council is deeply concerned about any proposals to relocate local jobs to another country.  The Lisburn plant is profitable and delivers a significant percentage of its products across Europe.  It will do everything it can to urge TECH Europe to reconsider this part of its major operation review.

"The Council would be keen to work with TECH Europe, its workers and all relevant agencies to look at viable alternatives to relocation, to try and accommodate workers and equip them with important information and support through this uncertain time," said  Alderman Leathem.

In order to discuss this Alderman Leathem has requested an urgent meeting with the company on its plans for the local operation.
