Statement of sympathy from the Mayor, Councillor Nicholas Trimble

March 5, 2021

The Mayor of Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council, Councillor Nicholas Trimble speaking about Jimmy Spratt, said: “Jimmy served as Mayor of the former Castlereagh Borough Council in 2006/07. On behalf of the council, I would like to convey deepest sympathies to his wife Lynda, his sons Richard, Gareth, Peter and Alan and their wider family circle at this time.

“As a former policeman Jimmy was committed to the safety of our residents and the wider Northern Ireland community.  Politics played an important part in Jimmy’s life after he retired from the police.  He served as an elected councillor from 2005 to 2014 and as an MLA from 2007 to 2015. Education, policing and regional development were important to him and he served on the relevant committees and the Northern Ireland Policing Board.

“Jimmy was a family man who doted on his wife, children and grandchildren.  His family remain in the thoughts and prayers of both council staff and elected members,” he concluded.
