Statement by the Mayor, Cllr Beckett on the Longest Serving Reign of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II

September 9, 2015

The Mayor of Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council has joined with the well wishes expressed in honour of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, who today is Great Britain’s longest reigning Monarch.

The Queen is Head of the Commonwealth and Sovereign of 15 Commonwealth realms.

Councillor Beckett said: “The Queen has reigned now for 63 years and I wish to pay tribute to the tremendous service and dedication to her role as Monarch, as so ably undertaken by Queen Elizabeth since coming to the throne at 25 years old.  Her Majesty has served the country faithfully and consistently, and is revered worldwide as our sovereign for Great Britain and the Commonwealth.

“The Queen has visited Lisburn on several occasions and of course Hillsborough Castle is the home of the Royal Family whilst in Northern Ireland.

“I would like to join with other well-wishers on this historical occasion to convey best wishes from the people of Lisburn and Castlereagh to Her Majesty The Queen,” concluded the Mayor.
