Sports Award Recognises Local Talent

Sport Lisburn & Castlereagh is calling for nominations for the 2017 Draynes Farm Sports Awards to recognise the wealth of sporting talent and achievements of individuals and teams residing in the Lisburn and Castlereagh area.

 

The Sports Awards scheme is an opportunity to recognise individuals and teams who have excelled within their chosen sport or contributed to sport through coaching.  Nomination categories include; Club of the Year, Coach of the Year, Senior Team of the Year, Junior Team of the Year, School of the Year, Junior Sports Personality of the Year and Senior Sports Personality of the Year.  There are also Junior and Senior Merit Awards up for grabs to commend volunteers for their dedication and essential backroom support to their club.

 

Launching the 2017 Draynes Farm Sports Awards, the Chairman of the Council’s Leisure and Community Development Committee, Alderman James Tinsley said, “The Council has a proud history of sporting success and the Sports Awards provide an opportunity to publicly recognise the diverse range of sporting talent we have in Lisburn & Castlereagh.

 

“Many of us know individuals and teams who have spent many years of hard work, training and dedication to excel in their chosen sport or who have helped others reach their potential through encouragement and passion for their sport.

 

“The closing date for nominations is Friday 13th October 2017 at 12 noon and I would encourage everyone to take a few moments to nominate an individual, club or school whose achievements might otherwise go unnoticed”, concluded Alderman Tinsley.

 

Jimmy Walker, Chairman of Sport Lisburn & Castlereagh added, “I am delighted that Sport Lisburn & Castlereagh can work in partnership with Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council to recognise, honour and congratulate athletes, teams and coaches at a glittering award ceremony which will take place later in the year.

 

“I would like to thank Draynes Farm for kindly sponsoring the awards and I hope many clubs and individuals will be encouraged to take the time to make a nomination and celebrate the wealth of sporting talent in Lisburn & Castlereagh.”

 

Nominations are welcome from schools, clubs and individuals, residing in the Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council area.

 

All nominations must be made in writing using the nomination form, which is available to download at www.lisburncastlereagh.gov.uk.  Forms can also be obtained by emailing adrian.baron@lisburncastlereagh.gov.uk or telephoning 028 9250 9461.

 

The closing date for applications is strictly Friday 13th October before 12 noon.
