Royal Hillsborough ‘crowned’ at Northern Ireland’s Best Kept Towns Awards

October 20, 2023

Royal Hillsborough has added another ‘jewel’ to its crown after winning first place in the ‘Large Village Category’ at the recent regional competition, in recognition of its excellent appearance and proud history.

This latest gong, makes it two years in a row for Royal Hillsborough securing this award from the ‘Best Kept Awards’.  They are organised by the Northern Ireland Amenity Council (NIAC) and sponsored by George Best Belfast City Airport.

Councillor Thomas Beckett, Communities & Wellbeing Chairman welcomes the receipt of this award by members of the local community at Northern Ireland’s Best Kept Towns Awards in Newtownabbey on 18th October.

Councillor Beckett said: “It’s an honour to see Royal Hillsborough once again win this wonderful accolade.

“We are rightly very proud of this beautiful, historic village with its rich history.  It sits at the heart of the Lisburn Castlereagh area - as well as the fact that it is the only town or village in Northern Ireland to have received Royal status.

“The village has community pride ‘in spades’ and there really is no brighter ‘rose’ in the Lisburn & Castlereagh area.  The judges recognised how well the local community worked alongside our council team to create ‘floral delights’.  This approach has enabled us to beat off strong competition from across Northern Ireland. Let me offer my congratulations to everyone involved in securing this award for the village.

“Royal Hillsborough is a beautiful spot, with picturesque streets, quaint shops and a wonderful forest park with breathtaking walks and scenery.  But don’t just take my word for it, come and pay us a visit!  We’d be delighted to welcome visitors to our multi award-winning Royal Hillsborough.”
