Planning Committee Goes Live
June 2, 2020
The first Planning Committee of Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council since the start of the coronavirus pandemic was live streamed on Tuesday 2nd June from 10.30am.
Councillor Jonathan Craig, Planning Committee Chairman, speaking about the meeting said: “As a committee we haven’t met since March but planning applications have continued to be received and assessed by the Planning Unit, all of which were publicly advertised in line with planning legislation. As Chairman I believe it is important that the council has resumed its planning committees, albeit virtually, to ensure that the planning process continues to be transparent and fair.
“Through the creative use of technology the committee will continue to operate in the short term; and the public can see that we are maintaining the level of scrutiny, accountability and public engagement required, albeit there have been some necessary amendments to the logistics of the meeting. As Chairman, I will ask those watching to bear with me as I have to ensure I set the scene in terms of the location of the meeting participants, explain what is happening and when, including how the voting will work, so you can understand the committee process and feel a part of it while watching live.”
Any votes taken at the committee meeting will be recorded verbally and then noted in the minutes.
All Planning Committee reports and minutes are available online within the same timeframes as pre Covid-19.

When it is safe to do so within social distancing guidance all council meetings will take place at Lagan Valley Island.
