Penny Square Market opens for Christmas

November 22, 2016

Penny Square Market on Haslem’s Lane, Lisburn City Centre has opened for business.  Running every Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday, and later into the evenings to tie in with late night shopping in the surrounding area, local acoustic acts and school choirs will be on hand to entertain market goers with a huge variety of food and exquisite arts and crafts products available to purchase. Getting into the festive spirit, the market will also welcome a Santa’s Grotto, hosted by charity partner, Cancer Focus NI.

Adorned with flowers, surrounded by artistry and abundant in atmosphere, Penny Square will be the centre piece of Lisburn this Christmas with a covered outdoor seating area and shelter from the elements. If that is not enough keep warm with loved ones with heavenly hot chocolate to tasty hot toddies and Christmas inspired cranberry burgers whilst picking up something a little different for those difficult to buy for over the holidays.

With Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council’s assistance, Penny Square has transformed into a vibrant market place with penny market pods and parasols. That’s not all though for Marketing Manager of Toland House, Sarah Munn who is also planning to host chef demos under these structures along with bake off displays, children’s shows and much more!

In partnership with the Department for Communities, Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council has invested in infrastructure for the Penny Square Market as part of the Revitalisation Programme which will enable this signature scheme to run in Lisburn City Centre until the 17th December and in turn attract a significant number of visitors.

Vice-Chair of Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council’s Development Committee Cllr. John Gallen commented on the opening night, “It is great to see the plans for Penny Square Market unfolding. In the run-up to Christmas it is fantastic to see more visitors and shoppers out and about in Lisburn City Centre buying gifts for loved ones whilst enjoying the array of entertainment on offer along with other City Centre events and attractions. I congratulate Penny Square Market on their efforts so far and would wish them all the best for the Christmas period and beyond.”
