Over £31,000 awarded to local groups in Lisburn Castlereagh

£31,684 has been awarded by Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council to seven local community and voluntary groups.  This was under its Technical Assistance and Feasibility Fund, part of the council’s Local Investment Plan.

This fund was designed to offer financial support to help local groups embark on the development of capital-related programme in their area.

Councillor Sharon Skillen, Leisure & Community Development Committee Chair, speaking about the provision of funding, said: “Our community is important to us. We want to support sustainable development at a grassroots level.  These seven groups will be able to use their funding to source training, secure a mentor or consultant to get support for feasibility studies or commission technical assistance to improve project viability.  The purpose of all these activities is to help them successfully design and implement capital projects in the years ahead.”

The projects being considered by the successful groups range from determining the viability of community centres in the heart of the area to the development of a sports pavilion, Men’s Shed, crisis accommodation and improved access to local woodland.

The groups which received TAFF funding were:

• Carryduff Play Care Centre
• Hillhall Regeneration Group
• Killynure Community Association
• Lisnagarvey Hockey Club
• Rathlane Care Farm
• Seymourhill & Conway Residents Association
