Over £250,000 awarded to improve local community facilities
October 15, 2021
Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council has awarded £250,938 to 27 community based facilities across its area as part of its Local Investment Plan 2021/22.
Councillor Sharon Skillen, Leisure & Community Development Committee Chair, speaking about the ‘Community Facilities Fund’ allocation said: “We are pleased to provide investment to grassroots community facilities in the Lisburn Castlereagh area to improve both access and inclusion across the wider community. These improvements will offer users an improved experience at their local community facility.
“As a council we are committed to responding to community needs across our area. With this funding local groups can undertake projects they might not otherwise have been able to do this year. A diverse range of projects across the cultural, sport, community, education and voluntary sectors are being supported with this grant fund.”
All the funded projects will commence in the financial year 2021/22 in line with the agreed criteria. Due to the strategic importance of this significant investment the council will be following the projects as they progress. Keep an eye on our social channels to see what is happening in your area.
Councillor Thomas Beckett, Vice-Chair of the council’s Leisure & Community Development Committee added: “As a council we wanted to help groups rebuild following the pandemic, develop capacity and address social isolation in their community. Through these partnerships we will see greater cross community participation at a local level. I would like to thank every group that applied for this opportunity to improve the sustainability of our community facilities.”
