New Tile Business 'Nicdar Tiles' Took Part in the Go for It Programme

Darren Martin decided to branch out into his own tile retail business in Dundonald after 25 years of working as a tiler in the commercial and domestic sectors and he received assistance from the Go for It programme.

This project is part funded by Invest Northern Ireland and the European Regional Development Fund under the Investment for Growth & Jobs Northern Ireland (2014-2020) Programme.

By taking part in the Go for It programme Darren was able to work with a business adviser to compile a business plan to identify the start-up capital required to open a retail business, hire staff and the potential income to ensure it is a viable business.

Alderman William Leathem, Chairman of the Council’s Development Committee met Darren said: “To become self-employed is a big step for anyone but Darren has embraced the opportunity and identified a business that suits his skill set of managing staff, record keeping, finance and tile quality to use in his new business Nicdar Tiles. This Dundonald based business offers Mediterranean, ceramic, porcelain, stone and mosaic tiles.

“Having met Darren it is evident he is passionate about what he does and what types of tiles offer quality and value for money for any type of premises.  I have no doubt that his customers can expect quality products and workmanship and I wish Darren every success in his business venture.”

Darren said: “The Go for It programme enabled me to gain the knowledge I needed to start and build my own retail business the way I envisaged it.  My advisor helped me draft a business plan, gave me advice on what is involved with managing a property, tax returns and national insurance payments, setting up business accounts with my local bank and suppliers as well as ways in which to advertise Nicdar Tiles.  Speaking with my advisor definitely gave me the confidence to pursue my dream to set up Nicdar Tiles.”
