The Calf Lane Kitchen in Coleraine won the ‘Newly Established Award’, which was sponsored by the Go for It Programme, at the Social Enterprise NI Awards in Belfast.
The well-known Go for It programme is now the collective responsibility of all 11 councils with the contract being managed by Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council.
Councillor Andrew Ewing, Vice-Chair of the Council’s Development Committee, presenting the Award on behalf of the Go for It programme, said: “All NI councils were delighted to have the opportunity to support Social Enterprise NI’s recent awards through the Go for It programme. This programme is a NI wide initiative and the 11 councils embrace the opportunity to support and acknowledge new start businesses. The Calf Lane Kitchen in Coleraine topped the category and is a project undertaken by the Millburn Community Association, which has proven to positively benefit the local community.
“This café has received very positive feedback from its customers who have described it as a great all round café with friendly staff, serving great food at affordable prices. It is viewed as a welcome addition to the Coleraine area and is going from strength to strength. The Millburn Community Association through this project has demonstrated how it is possible to establish a much needed social enterprise business. It has embraced the catering industry with great success and is operating a professionally run social enterprise.”
