Message of condolence for Captain Sir Tom Moore

February 2, 2021

The Mayor of Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council, Councillor Nicholas Trimble speaking about the passing of Captain Sir Tom Moore, said: “There are many things we will remember about this pandemic.  One precious memory is how 100 year old Captain Sir Tom Moore captured the heart of the nation as he raised millions for charity.

“He inspired us all by exercising within his own garden and surpassing his fundraising goal of £1,000 beyond all expectations.  He will forever be remembered by NHS staff and nations across the world for the £33 million he raised for NHS Charities Together.

“Captain Tom was honoured to have been knighted by The Queen in July. This was a worthy recognition of a true hero that put others first.  Our thoughts and prayers are with his family as they come to terms with his loss from COVID-19.

“As we all remember Captain Sir Tom Moore let us not forget his favourite saying ‘Tomorrow will be a good day’.  He was a true gentleman. Let us continue to be inspired by him.”
