Mayor's afternoon Tea Party a resounding success

June 9, 2016

As part of the Queen’s 90th Birthday Celebrations, the Mayor’s Afternoon Tea Party for residents celebrating their 90th birthday, or who are older; was held yesterday afternoon.

The Island Hall was full as Afternoon Tea was served to the Mayor’s guests.  The Mayor, Councillor Thomas Beckett and Mayoress, Mrs Linda Beckett, visited each of the guests and presented them with commemorative coins to mark the occasion.

Entertainment was provided by the Swingabella as Afternoon Tea was served, and Mr Gary Wilson had the role of MC.  The Mayor welcomed everyone to Lagan Valley Island and said that it was an honour and a privilege to host the event given its significance as part of Her Majesty’s 90th Birthday Celebrations.  A video of Her Majesty’s visit to Lisburn in 1953 was played.

Councillor Beckett said: “I would like to thank each and every person who attended the Afternoon Tea Party, including family and friends who made arrangements for travel and to be here.  It was a pleasure for the Mayoress and myself to meet so many interesting people.”
