Mayor Visits Local Foodbanks and Community Groups

May 11, 2020

Mayor, Councillor Alan Givan had the opportunity to see food parcels being delivered to Lagan Valley Island and then following part of their onward journey to local foodbanks and community groups.  It is from these local points that they are delivered to those who need them in our communities.

Mayor Givan visited the foodbanks in Lisburn, Moira and Dundonald as well as some community groups that are distributing the food parcels from the Department of Communities, which the council receives and delivers out to all communities across Lisburn Castlereagh.

He enjoyed meeting volunteers in Maghaberry, Carryduff and Newtownbreda who are all working hard to ensure that those in need of support at this time have access to food. He was very impressed by the well-stocked foodbanks and would like to ask residents that if they can afford to buy an extra few items with each weekly shop to please do so and leave for collection by the local foodbanks.

While at Maghaberry, the Mayor also was shown the face masks, scrubs and laundry bags that volunteers from the community have been making for local key workers.

Keep up the good work everyone!
