Mayor and family look forward to festive fun as #LC_lovesChristmas programme is launched

November 11, 2021

Lisburn and Castlereagh City Council has confirmed an exciting programme of Christmas events that will add some sparkle and fun for all the family this festive season.

Among the plans are community led events, light switch ons, Christmas markets and a festive themed creative arts programme for all ages to enjoy. And there will be many opportunities to visit Santa of course.

Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council Mayor, Alderman Stephen Martin has been planning which events to attend with his three daughters;

“Once again, we have created a spectacular programme of magical events for Christmas. To kick things off, my good friend from Cbeebies, Gyasi Sheppy will join me on 19 November to switch on the Christmas tree lights in Lisburn. This is a virtual event which is not to be missed and has been created with the help of local community, businesses and school groups. You can watch on line to be part of the fun and enter our Christmas competition.

With three girls in my family, it can be a challenge to please everyone. But this year we are all agreed that Christmas at the Castle will be a wonderful event for all of us. From 24 – 26 November you can see professional dancers, singing performers, Christmas characters and fire jugglers creating a magical walkway through festively lit trees. We hope to see you there.

I am also excited about the wide range of community events the Council is supporting right across Lisburn & Castlereagh and to bringing some festive cheer to local care homes and schools with a variety of entertainment programmes.”

Mayor Martin’s daughter Emily, aged 7 added; “The Martin family loves Christmas. My sisters and I have been really good this year and we can’t wait to bring our Santa lists to Santa at the museum. I am looking forward to seeing all the different characters when we are out shopping like dinosaurs, princesses and superheroes too. I think my sisters Imogen and Hallie will love the Light Festival with lots of twinkling lights, stars and Christmas decorations everywhere. Christmas is a really special family time for us.”

Mayor Martin concluded; “Our Christmas 2021 programme really has something for everyone. Check out our website for all the details and how to book. I look forward to seeing Lisburn & Castlereagh come alive with Christmas magic and our events help support young people by generating much needed funds for my Mayor’s charities MACS and ADD-NI. I hope you enjoy the wonderful time ahead.”
