Market Square Celebrates Legends, Legacy and Learn

October 20, 2016

With Northern Ireland’s Year of Food and Drink in full swing, Lisburn City Centre will welcome a weekend of music and food on the 4th and 5th November when Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council have arranged a range of free family activities to take place as part of November’s Legacy and Learn month.

Moonwalk your way to Market Square on Friday 4th November as a host of ‘stars’ take to the stage and perform cover songs from musical legends including ‘Michael Jackson’.  As well as live tribute acts, food and drink traders will be on-hand with different brands for you to try, all under a cosy and intimate marquee. From 3pm take part in family fun with face painting and superstar glitter tattoos.

As the festival begins on the Friday evening, Lisburn man Allister Brown will attempt to break the Guinness World Record for a non-stop drumroll.  This challenge will take place in local music store, Music Matters on Railway Street. Allister, a previous two time Guinness World Record Breaking drummer for the longest individual drumming marathon, is going for another official world record attempt and in the process will be raising funds for Northern Ireland Cancer Fund for Children and Children’s Heart Beat Trust.

Allister will then move to Market Square on the 5th November where he will continue the drum roll throughout the entire day. Between 10am and 3pm on the Saturday you will once again have the opportunity to meet fabulous food and drink traders as day two of ‘Legends, Legacy and Learn’ gets underway. Walk down Bow Street to witness family-fun shows by ‘Louie the Entertainer’ and other street performers.

Chair of Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council’s Development Committee, Councillor Uel Mackin commented about the upcoming events, ‘On the first weekend of November, make your way to Lisburn City Centre to enjoy some shopping or grab a bite to eat and while you are here stop into Market Square to catch some of Northern Ireland's popular and interesting musical talents. We think there is something for everyone at our very own ‘Legends, Legacy and Learn’ weekend and hope to fuse food and music with all of the other attractions in Lisburn City Centre, without visitors having to travel too far.’
