Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council launches ‘Local Lives: 100 years’ as part of Centenary Programme

Mayor of Lisburn & Castlereagh, Councillor Nicholas Trimble, has launched ‘Local Lives: 100 years’ to recognise the contributions of those in the LCCC area who have reached the wonderful milestone of 100 years old. As part of the Council’s NI Centenary Programme, 100 year old residents will receive a special commemorative gift.

Mayor Trimble said: “I am delighted with how our NI Centenary programme has come together and it is great to see the variety of projects start to come to life.

"The ‘Local Lives:100 years’ project is particularly special as we celebrate the lives of people in our community who have reached 100 years old.

"The first to receive a commemorative gift is local lady, Doreen McKee, nominated by her son Michael. Meeting Doreen and her family was a wonderful experience for me. She is such an interesting person with a fantastic history. Her family now extends as far as Canada with five generations of love and life all because of “two nanny” as she is lovingly referred to by the little ones.

"Thanks to Doreen’s family, to launch /Local Lives:100 years, we have made a short video that represents the life of Doreen McKee. I hope you enjoy it and it inspires you to nominate someone in your life who has reached this milestone.”

Doreen’s son, Michael McKee spoke of how proud he is of his mother; “My mother is an incredible woman and is the heart and soul of our family. I am so pleased that she is the first person to be presented with a gift by the Mayor as part of this initiative. All five generations of our family are so proud of her and love her so much.”
