LCCC provides £45,000 to local communities for Queens Platinum Jubilee celebrations.

Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council has awarded funding to 91 community groups to host a range of celebrations and events as part of the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee programme.
Planned events include Big Jubilee lunches, family fun days, group outings, tree plantings and in the case of Lisburn Downtown Centre (pictured), a tea party.
Mayor, Alderman Stephen Martin said: “In addition to the Council’s Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Programme of events, we felt it was important to support local groups to host celebrations in a way that is meaningful and close to them.
“I have no doubt that the many community events will be a fitting tribute to Her Majesty’s public service and will provide a burst of positivity and fun for residents.
“I wish to thank all of those who have got involved in delivering these events and I look forward to attending as many as I can myself.”
Chair of the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Working Group, Councillor Hazel Legge said: “I am delighted to see so many of our community groups get involved in our Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations.
“Our overall programme has something for everybody and we hope it appeals to all ages. We have already planted 70 trees across the area with the Queen’s Green Canopy initiative and will soon be sharing more about celebrations taking place around the Platinum Jubilee Bank Holiday weekend.
“Our programme continues to evolve as the year goes on so keep an eye on the LCCC website as well as our social media channels for the latest projects and news throughout this Platinum Jubilee year.”
Chair of Leisure and Community Development Councillor Sharon Skillen added: “Coming together and enjoying the outdoors is so important and through this grant fund we have created so many opportunities for community celebrations.
“It is already clear that this funding will bring people together to celebrate Her Majesty the Queen’s historic reign over for the last 70 years.”
One such celebration will be held by Lisburn Downtown Centre as they lay on a tea party for the public on 31st May.
Lisburn Downtown Centre Co-Ordinator Rebecca Chambers said: “The Centre exists to bring people together from our community and offer support to those struggling with their mental health, mild learning difficulties, loneliness and more.
“Holding events like these is another way to bring people together and we are thankful to the council for their continued support.”
