Local Communities Get Set for Christmas Across Lisburn & Castlereagh
November 21, 2018
With Christmas just around the corner, 19 local community groups are getting ready to switch-on Christmas lights across the Lisburn Castlereagh area between 28th November and 8th December.
These groups were awarded funding under the Council’s ‘Community Christmas Tree Grants Scheme’.
Recognising the efforts of all involved, Chairman of the Council’s Leisure and Community Development Committee, Alderman Paul Porter, said: “Our community groups work extremely hard to bring communities together; and Christmas switch-ons are the perfect way to enable residents of all ages to enjoy the magic of Christmas locally. Each switch-on creates a real sense of community spirit and is an ideal way to start the festive season with family and friends.
“Ravarnet will receive funding for a community Switch-On for the first time and I am delighted to see new community groups applying for available funding. The Council is pleased to provide funding for such events and offer support to the groups bringing Christmas celebrations to the heart of our local communities. I would like to thank all those involved for organising these events and look forward to celebrating Christmas across the Lisburn Castlereagh area.”
Councillor Janet Gray MBE, speaking about the Ravarnet celebrations, said: “It is great news that Ravarnet Community Network has secured financial support for an event that will bring residents together in the centre of the village. I am looking forward to attending this festive event and celebrating with neighbours, friends and colleagues.”
