Living Tributes to our healthcare workers
May 1, 2020
The council is planting three flowerbeds in recognition of the selfless dedication of our healthcare personnel as they work to save lives during the coronavirus pandemic.
The first one is within Castle Gardens, Lisburn and is visible from the Queen’s Road. The other two will be in place next week at Moat Park, Dundonald opposite the Ulster Hospital and at the Hillsborough Roundabout on the A1.
Alderman James Tinsley, Leisure & Community Development Committee Chairman, when viewing the first floral tribute, said: “Our healthcare staff are working long hours to save as many lives as possible, so as a council we wanted to display our thanks to them using plant life. It is fitting they are located on main arterial routes to the two hospitals in the Lisburn Castlereagh area; and we hope the NHS staff get the chance to view them on their journey to or from work.
“Without the commitment of our healthcare professionals we could have higher numbers of Covid-19 related deaths. I wish them every continued safety at their work and would like to remind our residents to wash their hands frequently and only travel for essential reasons.”
David Burns, Chief Executive of Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council added: “I am delighted that our council is able to show its support for frontline services in innovative ways. For those residents who would walk locally in Castle Gardens and Moat Park we hope you appreciate these new floral displays.”
