Lisburn retailer strikes gold in Independent Retailers NI Awards

August 11, 2020

Rosie’s Emporium of Lisburn Square was recently announced as a Gold Winner in the Homewear Retailers category of the Independent Retailers NI Awards.

The awards, which were delivered by Retail NI and the Irish News with support from Camelot, recognise and celebrate the importance of independent retailers and the diversity they bring to our local economy. Winners were chosen by a People’s Vote, which took place across a four-week campaign.

Rosie’s Emporium specialises in giftware for all occasions. Part of the shop is dedicated to local artists and producers, who provide shoppers with a unique range of artwork, gifts and candles.

The owner, Rosaleen Stewart, originally started trading in a smaller shop in Haslem’s Lane, Lisburn. Since then, she has participated in Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council’s Mentor Growth Programme and her business has become quite a success story in the area.

Alderman Jim Dillon MBE, Chair of the council’s Development Committee, said: “On behalf of Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council, I congratulate Rosaleen on this wonderful achievement. I’m proud to see one of our city’s independent retailers being recognised for its efforts, particularly as we all work through the difficulties of the Covid-19 crisis.

“Independent retailers, like Rosie’s Emporium, make a huge contribution to our local communities, high streets, and suppliers. And as we journey along the road of recovery, I encourage shoppers to support independent retailers now more than ever and help to rebuild our local economy.

“Rosie’s Emporium is a wonderfully welcoming shop with a unique product offering. It has gone from strength to strength and I wish Rosaleen many more successes in the future.”

The Mayor of Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council, Councillor Hon Nicholas Trimble, said:  "Rosie’s Emporium is a worthy winner of this prestigious award. Rosaleen runs a fantastic independent boutique-style shop, with a wide variety of products. There is something in Rosie’s Emporium for everyone, and it was great to see so many shoppers call in when I was visiting the shop.

“I would like to heartily congratulate Rosaleen Stewart on her recent award. The Independent Retailers NI awards recognise the importance of independent retailers and the diversity they bring to our local economy.

"I am very proud that Rosie’s Emporium is located in our council area and they continue to enjoy success as an independent retailer.

"Rosie’s Emporium is an excellent example of our local retail offering. The gold award is a reflection of their hard work, passion and determination. I wish Rosaleen the very best of luck for continued success in the future.”

Rosaleen Stewart, owner of Rosie’s Emporium said: “We are absolutely thrilled about winning the gold award. At Rosie’s Emporium, we work extremely hard to offer something different to our customers. We are always thinking outside the box to ensure diversity and uniqueness in our product range. Thank you to all our customers for voting for us, their support is invaluable to our business.

We would also like to extend our thanks to the Economic Development and City-Centre Management team at Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council. We look forward to enjoying more success in the years to come.”
